Small Collaborative Partnerships, promote traditional European sports and games!

FICEP youth camp is the result of the partnering of several European non-profit organizations with the aim to develop sport and sport practices. The national federation of each contributing country work primarily based on educational projects notably similar, which carry the same vision of sports as mainstream education, using sport as a means of expression, individual development and personal fulfilment. The search for performance is far from being the main objective of these development programs carried out by those federations. Nevertheless, from this common aims emerged several collaborative projects where the FICEP youth camp fits in.

FICEP youth camp basically consists in the organization of a summer camp for young Europeans to address volunteering in sport and access to sports for all. The main objective is for them to experience different cultures through the organization and promotion of traditional European games. The first camp took place in August 2017 and brought together 70 young people. During the week, we set out multiples activities in order to achieve our main objective involving actively the young people in setting up, running, and assessing all the games and other social interaction.

The organization of the FICEP youth camp took place in several phases, its preparation to start with, its implementation, followed by its control and evaluation and finally the sharing of the findings. To begin with, an international Steering Committee was created in order to award the organization of the summer camp to France, and to draw up all requirement and specification. Then each country involved had to nominate a dedicated member of staff to work specifically on this project, which allowed them to structure the project so that every European administration steps could be undertaken efficiently (application for Participant Identification Code…)

The implementation of the camp consisted in setting up a suitable communication strategy in several languages, put in place a tight schedule and work on the educational content of the week. A pre camp was organized in each contributing country in order to allow young people from each delegation to know each other better, to build a cohesive group and to initiate tem building by offering tutored language workshops. The main camp took place from the 29th of July until the 5th of August 2017 in Hermancia on the banks of lake Geneva. Activities around traditional games were the main theme of the week with an emphasis on promoting sport for all and encouraging the young people to commit to active involvement in their local sports associations back home.

During the implementation, we planned regular stages of control with each partnering country to assess progress, have an updated summary of the work completed and discuss any related issues. On the other hand the assessment of the project was orchestrated during and at the end of the camp for the purpose of measuring its success and gathering feedback and suggestions for the future.

Finally each participating country contributed in creating an online promotional video and a website resuming numerous European traditional games and sports translated in several languages for an effective dissemination of the results.
